The Atom is the name of a new family of low-power processors designed specifically for MIDs (Mobile Internet Device) and a new category of computers to connect to the Internet simple and accessible, arriving this year.
The Intel Atom is based on an entirely new microarchitecture designed specifically for small devices and low power consumption while maintaining instruction set compatibility with Intel ® Core ™ 2 Duo processor, which users running on standard PC Internet have become accustomed.
These new chips, whose code names were "Silverthorne" and "Diamondville", will be created with the innovative Intel's 45nm process with high-k metal gate (High-K).
"This is Intel's smallest processor ever produced by the world's smallest transistors," said Sean Maloney, Executive Vice President and Chief Sales and Marketing Officer of Intel.
