One of the hot topics of Mobile World Congress was definitely one of the future of cellular networks and the development of mobile broadband . On the one hand there has been talk of the development of 3G technologies currently in use, the other threw himself looking forward to a few years LTE technologies. For the latter it comes to an arrival on the market before the year 2010/2011, including the need to build a new network, unable to take advantage of the current UMTS network coverage.
Perhaps most interesting, because of their impact on the market in the shorter term, developments in 3G and 3.5G connections currently in use. A keyword is was certainly ' femtocells '. The band UMTS / HSDPA in fact a problem to penetrate inside buildings, so it does not ensure good coverage in the inner part of them.
One of the solutions proposed by technology to avoid this is to install femtocells inside of buildings, able to guarantee coverage with low power. As reported SlashPhone there are many actors working on this type of tencologia, including Vodafone.
The same operator is working then Ericsson, Huawei and Qualcomm preliminary tests of HSPA + technology , also known as HSPA Evolution , which should handle data more efficiently the existing HSPA technology, with bandwidths can ragigungere value 28.8 Mbps.
The technology is based on the use of multiple antennas, and on broadcast stations, both on portable devices following the principle MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output ), and a new type of modulation , called 64-QAM HSDPA. These new
tencologie to be exploited, will require a whole new set of equipment in line with 3GPP standards Release7. We will to see if these new technologies will serve as a ferry to as LTE, or if they will be direct competitors.
However, these technologies will have to deal with those WiMax, which is currently undergoing major expansion and development in many countries, which promise to bring about the broadband access on mobile devices.
